Honolulu – Hawaii

I.Love.Honolulu! This place is probably what all the hype around Hawaii is all about. Here everyone will be able to find the thing they consider making it the perfect holiday destination: beautiful beaches, crystal clear water, amazing waves (for beginners and advanced), shopping, restaurants, hiking, volcanoes, scenic drives, very vibe-y nightlife and much, much more! You just FEEL like you’re in paradise when you are in Honolulu :)!

So, first, we did one of Princess Cruises’ shore excursions to Diamond Head. This volcanic crater has a long history of different groups occupying it, but today it can be visited by locals and tourists alike. The bus takes you to the center of the crater and then there is a steep hike up to the top. The elevation is about 560ft (171m) from where you start, but the total elevation is 760ft (232m). Though it sounds very tough, I would say it’s a moderate hike with well-marked footpaths, tunnels and stairs. And, needless to say, the view from the top is completely worth it!! On the way up, there are quite a few look-out points too, so you get some good views and photo ops. At the top you’ve got a 360˚ view of Honolulu, Oahu.

Interestingly, the rainfall at Diamond Head is only about 25inches (63,5cm) a year so it is quite dry (refer to photos), but just a few miles away, you can see lush green mountains/hills and beautiful neighbourhoods (refer to photos), and these get about 250inches (635cm) a year!!

From there we went straight to the famous Waikiki beach :)! It was absolutely packed, and so was the water. People all around were just enjoying themselves! We also (for the first time ever), went to The Cheesecake Factory. (My apologies to everyone who has been there many times and does not see this as a priority on a day out, but to a girl on her first visit there, it was heaven… and definitely something to write home about!). In the photos, you will see we ordered Carrot Cake Cheesecake with cream cheese frosting; Snicker’s Topped Cheesecake with Oreo crust; and Adam’s Peanut Butter Cheesecake. Like I said…heaven!

Another interesting tidbit… the total population of Hawaii is about 1.4ml at the moment, of which 970 000 live in Honolulu!
